How Long Does It Take CBD To Work?

There are many ways to take CBD but Tinctures are the quickest way to feel the effects of CBD.

As popularity in natural alternatives to pharmaceutical medicines continues to rise, more and more people turn to CBD in an effort to find relief for a wide list of ailments. As the number of people purchasing and trying CBD for the first time increases, many are questioning the best ways to consume these unique products. While there are many different ways of taking CBD, the most effective way is by using a tincture.

What is a CBD Tincture?

CBD Tinctures work by delivering a serving of CBD oil sublingually, or under the tongue, and allowing the oil to be absorbed by your gums. In this method, CBD takes a more direct route into the bloodstream by getting absorbed through mucous glands. CBD Oil should be left under the tongue minimally for 20-30 seconds, with some recommending you leave it for 90 seconds before swallowing the remainder.

After consuming the CBD oil, effectiveness generally takes between 20-30 minutes but many users claim to begin feeling relief almost instantly. This may be caused by a blend of different oils which all interact individually and collectively to deliver the entourage of effects.

The entourage effect is the belief that compounds work collectively to enhance their individual effects, making the collective stronger than their parts individually. Although tinctures are not the longest lasting method of consumption, they still deliver upwards of 6+ hours relief, making them a very versatile method of intake.

Why are CBD tinctures so effective?

Fatty oils infused with CBD deliver a relatively quick and extremely efficient method of getting CBD into your body. Edibles and capsules that are swallowed have to fight there way through the digestive system. The digestive system is filled with acids that break down and waste a large percent of the available CBD. This is known as the bioavailability of CBD.

When cannabinoids like CBD are introduced into a fatty oil like coconut oil, MCT oil or hemp seed oil, it significantly increases the bioavailability of the CBD. These tinctures, sublingual oils, are considered to be the most bioavailable form of consuming cannabis oil meaning your body uses almost all of the product’s CBD content.

Determining the proper dosage of CBD needed

While there is no actual documentation determining how much CBD dosage any one person may need to use for a specific reason, Smooth Roots has a simple and effective starting regimen. We recommend starting around 3-5 droplets, not full droppers, of a 30mL tincture containing 1000mg CBD. Depending on the severity of the use, try 7-10 droplets. T3-5 droplets is 4mg - 6.7mg which is a good starting dose unless you need to the higher starting point, 7-10 droplets which would be 9.3mg - 13.4mg.

These numbers are small because they are starting points. Many people find that using a CBD tincture in these amounts is sufficient while other people need a lot more. Unfortunately, cannabinoids like CBD are not a one size fits all and it is currently more of a trial and error process. It is here we would like to make the note that all products contain 0.3%.

Mathematical breakdown of CBD dosage using a tincture

1000mg CBD tincture (30mL - 1fl oz)

  • A tincture of this size will contain 30 1mL droppers. At 1,000mg/bottle, each 1mL (full dropper) contains 33mg of CBD. (1,000 / 30 = 33.33)
  • Each 1mL dropper contains about 25 droplets. Because each dropper is 33mg, this means each droplet is equivalent to 1.33mg. (33.33 / 25 = 1.33)
  • Each 30mL tincture bottle has 30 1mL full droppers. This means that each bottle has around 750 drops in it.

This is a general breakdown a commonly bought tincture size. You can use this formula to determine any size tincture of any potency to ensure you are always taking an accurate dose.
